Each student applying to the RSA for the 2018-2019 school year will be issued a lottery number (after the application window closes) both by email and U.S. mail. Please retain the letter with your lottery number for future reference. The lottery will be conducted by a demography company, Cooperative Strategies, in partnership with Riverside Unified School District.


  • Results from the lottery will be posted on our website ( by the end of the day on January 19th. Only the lottery numbers will be posted, so PLEASE RETAIN THE LETTER WITH YOUR LOTTERY NUMBER FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
  • Students who are not selected to attend STEM will be placed on a wait list in the order their number is drawn during the lottery in the event seats become available at a later date.


Once lottery numbers have been drawn, students will be accepted to RSA using the following criteria:

  • All incoming students must have achieved a score of Standard “Exceeded”, “Met”, or “Nearly Met” on English Language Arts/Literature OR Math 2017 Smarter Balanced Assessments. For students outside of our district, please provide a copy of your assessment results. If you did not receive the assessment results, you may call your school office to request a copy. If your student’s current school does not administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments, an aligned assessment will be given to your student.
  • All incoming 5th grade parents and students will be expected to participate in our Summer Bridge Program. Please mark your calendars: Students attend June 18-22, and parents attend on June 16th and a conference on June 24th if needed.


Only students selected for an available space are required to complete a Registration packet

  • Parent/Guardian is required to pick up a registration packet in the office between January 25th and February 2nd
  • Completed registration packets may be returned to the Registrar in the Front Office on any of the following days:

February 5th through the 23rd from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM

  • If you are unable to meet the above deadlines, please email Nora Unrath at
  • If we do not hear from you by February 2nd, the student’s name will be removed and we will move to the next name on the waitlist.
  • As spaces become available, they will be offered to students on the waiting list in the order their number was drawn during the lottery.


Please note: There will be 105 seats open for incoming 5th grade students. Currently there are no openings for grades 6-8, but, if you would like to get your child’s name on the waiting list, this is the only opportunity to apply and be added to this list. Also, the waitlist ends after 8th grade – those students who are currently on our 8th grade waitlist must reapply for the high school program.
